Interview quote:

How do you look back to 2020?

The year has gone very well in terms of my work. Although I knew it wasn't for many there. I shot a short film and a small series even during locking. All such activities are well received. I don’t know if these projects would have come out if the locks didn’t happen. It has been a very productive year at work. Looking back, 2020 actually brings a big smile to my face. I just hope things get better soon.

You have been a part of back-to-back projects across all OTT platforms. How do you evaluate the game?

Since The Family Man dropped at the end of September 2019, its popularity has continued to grow and shakes the good news that the game produced into January and February, this year.

Family Man has revived my career behind Philistia, nothing major has happened before of this work. After that Asur came in March. I think it was my first project to benefit from this closure. Despite all the prominence, Asur found great love and appreciation from the audience. The show began with a broadcast. I only had two scenes in Scam 1992 and viewers still remember me as Bellary. Although a small role, it was not, by any means, an insignificant thing. I feel very happy to be given that role.

What project made you so happy?

Ram Singh Charlie is very close to my heart as it is my first film as a producer. Nitin (Kakkar) and I wrote it with all our heart. We found it difficult to get it out of the theater. In the end, SonyLIV showed confidence in us and our story. The way it was received by the viewers was, of course, heartwarming. We knew it was not a film to get crores of Rs 100. All we wanted was to reach the audience. And, in Darbaan, I have played my most challenging role, so far. It’s the open, emotional drawings I play. My character comes from this game when I was young, middle-aged and old. I still remember how much I loved visiting the sets of this show.

Are you satisfied with your work this year?

There is always a range of development. God be merciful to me. I feel smart, the work I did this year is the same as the one I did before. For now, I have chosen the right projects and the right characters to present.

Any show or film this year wish you were a part of it, and why?

I wish I was at Paatal Lok. I loved it and would love to do any part of it. I wish I could play Hathoda Tyagi, because I don't have the personality to be Hathiram Chaudhary. Abhishek (Banerjee) played Hathoda Tyagi and took it to another level. I don’t know if I could do justice to that role.

What change has 2020 brought to you?

I have become more patient. I have come to value things more and have learned to be happy with what I have.

The best thing to remember in 2020?

The love the audience gave me during the lock. Also, the time I spent with the family because when we were in the outer forest, we didn’t see our kids for days. Besides, I was cooking and doing household chores. These are wonderful memories.

Ahead of work, how do you see 2021 being formed?

I’ve already started shooting with a few projects. I look forward to the second season of Family Man. I hope viewers love it just as much as they did in the first season. The show will be back on a grand scale, with many new faces for the characters.

I also shot miniseries with Sara Khan in Kashmir. I play a very different character. Then there is the film Imperfect Man. It has amazing text. I also sang that movie. There are two big films in the pipeline, but I can't reveal the details right now. I want to explore all kinds. I also want to be a part of a film with a simple heart, like Priyadarshan Flick.
